Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer has dismissed the suggestion that Marcelo Bielsa’s 12-month contract policy brings too much uncertainty.
Bielsa has a preference of signing single-year deals and being on a rolling contract, often leaving his future up in the air, as it is right now.
His current deal expires in the summer and he has yet to agree new terms, causing doubt and perhaps an argument that this approach brings a lot of uncertainty with it.
For Palmer, though, that is not the case, with the ex-Leeds player believing Bielsa’s preference works for all parties.
On the subject, Palmer told FFC in an exclusive interview:
“There’s no uncertainty; it’s a 12-month rolling contract. So unless either party terminates it, it kicks in again – that’s the idea of a rolling contract.

“I think it works for both parties. There’s no huge compensation clause if he decides to go, and if it’s not working well, the club can terminate his contract.”
There were reports that Bielsa was close to putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal, but the Argentinian has since come out to quash those rumours, stating that the information circulating was “not real” and that he or the club would make an announcement once there is one to make.
