In January, Xavi announced that he would leave the Catalan club at the end of the current campaign. Since then, Barcelona sporting director Deco has been working behind the scenes to finalise a new head coach for the club ahead of the 2024/25 season.

According to , Barca are eyeing a move for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta as possible replacement for Xavi and Deco has reportedly been in touch with the Basque coach. Both the sporting director and club president Joan Laporta like the Gunners manager, although he has a contract with the Premier League giants until 2025.
